Telarus BizTech Unboxed – Crexendo’s CAIRO AI Receptionist Demo

This episode of BizTech Unboxed features Patrick Jean, Director of Sales Engineering at Crexendo, demonstrating their new AI receptionist called CAIRO. The session begins with an introduction to Crexendo as one of the fastest-growing UCaaS and CCaaS providers with nearly 8 million end users. Patrick explains that CAIRO is more than just an AI receptionist – it’s an orchestrator that can take calls, gather information, answer questions, route calls to appropriate departments, and provide AI summaries to call recipients. The demo includes a live call simulation to Riverview City Hall where CAIRO handles multiple requests including building permits and pothole reporting. Patrick then walks through the configuration interface, showing how easy it is to set up the AI receptionist within five minutes. The platform includes customizable AI personalities, department routing, knowledge base configuration, calendar integrations, and real-time notifications. The system requires users to provide their own knowledge base rather than searching the web, ensuring accuracy. Crexendo offers implementation support and the service operates on a per-receptionist licensing model, allowing for account expansion opportunities for technology advisors.

Greetings everyone. Welcome to this edition of BizTech Unboxed. A series, brought to you here by Telarus where we actually go into the technology and see how it actually works from a functional level. Today, we’re very, privileged to have with us my man, Patrick Jean.

It’s kind of the Patrick show. It’s actually the unboxing show starring the Patricks. We’re so glad to have you. Patrick is the national or the director of sales engineering at Crexendo, one of our fastest growing UCaaS and CCaaS providers.

They have built a tremendous product, and really haven’t been a Telarus supplier for that long. So for those of you who are maybe unfamiliar with Crexendo, Patrick, step us a little bit through who Crexendo is, who you are, and briefly what you guys are up to because really this is a really powerful UCaaS, CCaaS platform, all under one umbrella that rivals the some of the big names out there.

Yes. Again, I’m Patrick, and it’s a pleasure to be here with you, Patrick.

Welcome, great name, by the way.

Yes. I’m the director of sales engineering at Crexendo. We’re the fastest UCaaS provider in North America with, almost eight million end users at this point.

Wow. That’s good.

Yeah.

And in the last The biggest little company a lot of people haven’t heard of.

This is awesome.

I know. And and in the last year or so, we’ve been, building our AI stack. So we’ve released, three different AI tools, and I’m here to talk about the the latest one,CAIRO, that will be on our UCaaS and CCaaS platforms.

Fantastic. Thank you so much for being here. Crexendo has been a very, very valuable partner here at Telarus. The people who have used you love you.

The product is great. You have lots of vertically specific, integrations that you guys have built out. But like you said, today we’re gonna talk aboutCAIRO. Shout out Egypt.

AndCAIROis an AI, but AI means a lot of things to a lot of people. Help us simplify it down to what specifically it is. I mean, here you can see it’s an AI receptionist, right? So it’s not a call quality, it’s not some automated assistant type of thing like an AI receptionist.

Like we’re talking about possibly replacing people, augmenting people, probably better call screening. Take us in-depth on whatCAIROis and how this AI receptionist can really help revolutionize a business.

Yes. Well, Patrick,CAIROis not just an AI receptionist. It is. It does that, but it does a lot more.

You mean it’s an orchestrator too?

It it it is an orchestrator. We have to credit, Doug Gilar, our president, for for the name, Crexendo, AI receptionist, and orchestrator. So what it does, it will take in a call.

So it Time out.

Guys, if you’re watching at home, we’re still rolling. He’s gonna tell you what it does, but we’re gonna actually take a look into the actual interface and we’re gonna do some test calls. So hang in there with us. Tell us what it does and let’s get to the good stuff, Patrick.

Yes. Yes. So it will take a call. Yes. It will take down information, answer questions, and route the call wherever it needs to go.

Okay. And then it will provide an AI summary to whoever is receiving that call. Okay. Great.

So it’s a full stack from top to bottom, full interaction. It’s always on. So it it doesn’t take a break. It doesn’t need a coffee break.

It’s weekends, holidays.

It holidays included.

No shutdown. Right. No budget cuts. No. Okay.

There you have it.

Yeah. So I I’ll I’ll go through a few or one specific use case for you just to show you how it works. Okay.

You ready? Okay. Yeah. It looks like we’re looking at the Riverview City Hall here. Yes. I think we’re gonna call them up andCAIROmight just answer that call for us. Let’s see.

Let’s see how it goes.

Hi there. Thanks for calling Ruderview City Hall. How can I help you today?

Hi. We just moved to the city, and, we’d like to remodel our home. Do I need some sort of permit, and how do I go about getting that?

For remodeling your home, you will likely need a building permit. Permits and licensing handles building permit applications and can guide you through the process. Would you like me to connect you with the permits and licensing department to assist you with your remodeling permit?

Yes. But before you do, I I’d also like to report some major potholes around my street.

Thanks for letting me know about the potholes on your street. I can file a report for you. Could you please provide me with the street location where the potholes are? Also, may I have your phone number in case they need to contact you for more details?

Yes. The street is one two three Elm Street, and my number is the number I just called you on.

Thank you for I have filed a report for the potholes on one two three Elm Street.

Thank you.

Excellent. That was a really cool demo. Quite frankly, I’m a little bit afraid of Elm Street. So you might have to report a couple of other things on Elm Street here.

For those of you who are a little older, that’s a Nightmare on Elm Street reference. You guys are probably too young to know what that is. But, real fast, Patrick. That was cool.

Let’s just take a quick minute and kind of look under the hood and see how that works because I’m sure people are watching this thinking, well, how easy is it to configure? What does the UI look like? Step us through how a company, an advisor would either assist a client in doing this or if the client is self supported, they have their own IT department. How would they go through this?

What does this look like for them?

Exactly. And one of the biggest thing and one of the major things we wanted to do when we releasedCAIROis to make sure that the implementation was as easy as possible. So within our within our platform, the the user will have access to the portal itself. We configure everything from top to bottom for for customers. But they will have access to the portal at any given time and they’ll be able to reconfigure Okay.

So this portal is the thing that you make available to all your UCaaS, CCaaS customers. Correct?

Exactly.

And you have to be on the Crexendo platform to implement this AI receptionist.

It’s not a standalone product. It’s an embedded product in your in your ecosystem. Correct?

Exactly. Okay. Exactly.

And you again, you access it directly from the portal, and then once you go through a portal And you clicked on AI receptionist.

Is that right?

Once you yes. AI receptionist right here.

And then we’re here.

And then we’re here. And this is the the receptionist that we just used and this is how you configure it, Patrick.

Okay.

So I’ll take you quickly within in five minutes, someone can configure a whole AI receptionist.

So you would just need to put in some basic information. Okay.

That looks like a really clean interface. Just put in some information.

Business hours and then you get to select your AI personality. Right now, about Delia. I know. Six different voices. They all sound great. And then you get to change the personality.

A little reference to Beetlejuice there.

Beetlejuice, right there.

Right. Keep going.

And then what what you’ll find throughout the whole implementation portion is that we have an LLM, a large language model built into the AI tool Yes. That will help you configure everything. So you don’t need to be exact with any message that you want. You just start typing and then you can improve with AI.

Okay.

And then this is where the magic happens, Patrick.

Agent knowledge.

That’s your knowledge base. The Kairo will not go through the web and try to find information for your business. Yeah. You gotta teach it.

Have to tell it what you want.

It it will it will just stick with the information that you provide to it to be accurate.

So So it’ll read through your website Exactly.

And then you can give it additional information.

Exactly. Exactly. So you can add all the information and on the call that I just showed, you were you were able to see the call being routed to different department.

I was able to get multiple And which one did you access here?

Was it this one up here, the departments? Yeah. Or was it? Okay.

I accessed the department. I asked questions. I can even schedule, an appointment, schedule a callback. So all of those things are things that are available.

And So when you reported the potholes on Elm Street that Freddie caused as he was running away from his latest victim, they I think up here was

Public works. Right? Potholes in the street damage. Okay.

Yes. Okay.

Again, you can this this has a five hundred megabit capacity, you can put in all kinds of information in there and then you can set limit I’m really sad that it doesn’t provide legal advice.

I mean, would be really cool.

Exactly. You you do not want it to provide legal advice. Right? And then once you build that, all you need to do is to connect it to the different departments that you wanted to go through. And one of the Okay.

Best things that I Like where do you want these calls to land?

Where do you want these calls to land? And then you can have those calls land to different departments specifically or you can have the calls lend directly to users.

So if you wanted to add users and have anyone, for example, if I want to I think Christopher Lee needs to get that call.

Exactly.

And then, of course, you need to have a default routing in case something doesn’t doesn’t work or some And that was my other question.

What if like the caller calls in and the AI really can’t figure out where to send it?

Like what’s what’s It will not guess.

That’s the best Okay. Thing about this. This will not guess and provide false information. It will revert back to a default location and then you get to select which one you want out of all your different departments.

Oh, okay. Great.

And then integrations, take us Integrations.

Again, this is you can connect it to your calendar.

To Outlook or Google Calendar?

Exactly. If you wanted to schedule a point, it will check the calendar, set set a calendar invite. As you as you saw, it send me a notification.

Yeah.

Or text messages messages again.

If you wanted to send real time notification, you can put in a number here and any of those keywords or sentiment that can trigger a a message goes out to this number whenever you need during the call. You you can think of any type of different use cases where a caller is talking to the AI receptionist and then there’s a keyword that’s that’s that’s triggering a message right in real time so somebody can pick up that call.

Fantastic. Now this looks very intuitive, but what if an adviser or customer is like, I know this is the right way to do it, but can someone help me? Do you guys like offer assistance and just like initial configs to kinda help people get stuff off the ground and running?

Exactly. I mean, even if the the customer doesn’t have a website, doesn’t have any any knowledge base. Yeah. We have a questionnaire. Our implementation team walks them through how to Okay. Configure that knowledge base.

So there is a team working for that will step everybody right through the process.

Exactly.

And then again, one of the best thing about this is once the customer has this onboarded, they can go back to the dashboard. They can check back the performance of the AI tool. If they want the the AI receptionist to handle more questions, they can always go back and they can see, for example, AI receptionist performance right here. They can see how many calls were rerouted, how many calls the AI handled themselves, and they can readjust all of those things.

Very cool. And then lastly, let’s talk economics. Is there additional fees to kind of turn this on? Is it part of the program? Like, how how does that work in the Crexendo world?

There’s a there’s a very, very there’s a fee associated withCAIRO.

So you you pay per receptionist, but the configuration and all of that So every time you go into receptionist and you set up a new one, it’s there’s there’s some type of fee Exactly.

Associated with each one of So it’s kind of like your license right here. Okay.

Exactly. So for an environment, you can have multiple AI receptions for different reasons. Maybe you have different calendars for different teams. So you may wanna have more than one receptionist.

Right. And that’s great because as people come in and start spinning up new receptionist, that of course creates additional revenue for partners. That’s what we affectionately call account expansion which is Exactly. Awesome, awesome, awesome in the technology advisor world.

Well, Patrick, that’s all the time we have today. Thank you so much for stopping by and being a valuable guest here on BizTech Unboxed. We’re so glad you made the trip out here to Salt Lake City. Thank you for coming.

And if you guys find this interesting like I do and you wanna learn more about Crexendo, they have lots more things.
